(A site audit is a good place to start to get an idea of how your site is set up) I definitely recommend using SEMrush, as a must have regardless of your general strategy because whatever that is, SEMrush will have a tool for it.

SEMrush is the go to tool for SEO analysis, and is especially useful when used with the SEOquake Chrome browser plugin.

Alternatively, if you are in a hurry, you can use a tool like SEO superstar Niel Patel's SEO Analyzer which has the ability to do this aswell.

(I'd still recommend getting SEMrush though also, as it has a huge number of tools)

Now download a tool called Screaming Frog SEO Spider.

It's free and multi platform for Windows, Linux or Mac.

This will allow you to crawl all of your competitors website.

(It does take a little time to load, but you get there in the end!)

Enter a competitors url in the search bar of Screaming Frog and hit enter.

It will crawl 500 urls in the free version.

Once the crawl is complete, click "Response Codes."

Now click on the dropdown arrow next to "filter" and select "Client Error 4xx."

Now you'll be able to see the brand's 404 pages.

Export all of your competitor’s 404 pages into a spreadsheet.

Next, go over to Majestic (paid) or Mozilla’s Link Explorer (freemium) to see if their 404 pages actually have any external links.

Once you have a list of links going to these broken pages, you then need to create great relevant content and reach out to the people linking to the broken page, and make them aware of your content.

This is a great and effective method for gaining backlinks.

This is just one of many ways to better content marketing.

2. Intention Of Users.

If you are using a WordPress site, then there are a number of things which you can do in addition to the above to maximise your search presence and get your content to a wider audience.

Here are 3 WordPress plugins which I consider essential for optimizing content efficiently and I highly recommend that you use them.

A. SEO Press

SEO Press is a great SEO plugin for WordPress, and is probably the first one you should set up on a new site. It comes with a large range of tools for both beginners and advanced users to optimize their site. It is free with a paid option (as usual) the free version being sufficient for most use cases so no worries on that score really.

B. SEO Smart Links

SEO Smart Links is a great little plugin for WordPress which enables you to have automatically linked keywords and phrases in your posts and comments with corresponding posts, pages, categories and tags on your blog.

It also allows you to set up your own keywords and set of matching URLs and allows to set nofollow links aswell, all configurable from the Admin panel. Definitely a recommended plugin for any WordPress user.

C. Related Posts For WordPress

A little different to the Smart Links plugin above, Related Posts For WordPress gives you a reliable and lightweight plugin for your related posts. Together with fast support in case of questions or problems, I would advise to use this plugin if you are looking for good, solid related posts ability on your site.

So I would recommend taking a look at all 3 above plugins when setting up your site.

So some ar all of the above methods can be used if you are wanting to get maximum exposure for your valuable life changing content!
