WordPress or ClassicPress Pingbacks & Trackbacks Guide

WordPress or ClassicPress trackbacks and pingbacks can be confusing for beginners, especially with the connotations of spam surrounding them. Both features have been around since the early days of blogging. Still, many WordPress users don’t know they exist or how to use them effectively. Usually, many users start learning about pingbacks/trackbacks after a ton of spammy links appear in their comments.

In this post, I cover all there is about WordPress pingbacks and trackbacks. Firstly, I help you to understand the difference between the two. Secondly, I cover the pros and cons of using pingbacks and trackbacks. Thirdly, I show you how to enable/disable trackbacks and pingbacks. Fourthly, I help you to decide whether to use them on your WordPress website.

Somewhere in the article, I cover a couple of pingback/trackback best practices. That’s not all; if you choose not to use pingbacks/trackbacks, I cover a couple of alternative methods to build natural links and offer your readers more content. To top it all, I throw in a couple of useful plugins for good measure! So:

What Are Pingbacks and Trackbacks? Plus, Why They’re Important

A WordPress trackback allows Jane to inform John that she linked to his content in one of her articles. A pingback is an automatic version of the trackback. Call it an upgrade with a few differences.

In most WordPress themes, trackbacks and pingbacks appear in the comment section – in a separate section or alongside other comments. It’s a way of Jane letting John know, “Hey, I have your back,” or “Here’s something you might be interested in.”

What Are Trackbacks?

The trackback protocol was first released in August 2002, by Six Apart Ltd, the guys behind the Movable Type CMS. It’s was designed to provide a means of notification between websites. The feature was first implemented in Moveable Type 2.2, but today, all major blogging tools such as WordPress, B2, and Blogger support trackback.

According to the WordPress Glossary:

A trackback helps you to notify another author that you wrote something related to what he had written on his blog, even if you don’t have an explicit link to his article.

This improves the chances of the other author sitting up and noticing that you gave him credit for something, or that you improved upon something he wrote, or something similar.

Think of them as the references at the end of an academic paper or a chapter in a textbook. To use trackback, you must have a trackback URL. How do you get a trackback URL?

Well, that’s extremely easy.

Firstly, go to the post on the other person’s blog and find the trackback URL. If they use WordPress, add /trackback/ at the end of the post’s permalink to create the trackback URL.

Next, write your post, paste the trackback URL in the Send Trackback section, and publish your article.

wordpress send trackbacks section

The Send Trackbacks section below the WordPress Classic Editor

As soon as you publish your article, WordPress will create an excerpt with a link back to your post and send it to the recipient website. The trackback will appear in the comment moderation screen, where the other person can post, spam, or trash it.

  • The other person must have pingbacks and trackbacks enabled on their website to receive your trackbacks
  • At the time of writing, you must use the Classic Editor to see the Send Trackbacks section. I couldn’t find the part in Gutenberg, but that’s alright since WordPress supports automatic pingbacks if you’re linking to other WordPress-based sites.

Note: The Wordpress fork ClassicPress, uses the Classic Editor as default, and comes with zero plugins.

Now that you know what trackbacks are, what, then, are pingbacks?

What Are Pingbacks?

wordpress pingbacks

You can think of the pingback as an improved version of the trackback protocol. Whereas the trackback involves a lot of manual work, the pingback is automatic. It’s a comment that’s automatically created when you link to another article where pingbacks are enabled.

In other words, you simply need to link to the other person’s blog post to create a pingback that the other guy can – again – spam, post, or trash. If they approve your pingback, it’s is displayed in the comments area.

Unlike what many “gurus” say, a pingback includes an excerpt just like the trackback, but most themes (including default WordPress themes) don’t display these excerpts. Meh ? So, the trackback will appear with an excerpt, but pingbacks will look like links.

The pingback specification is authored and maintained by Ian Hickson and Stuart Langridge. It’s harder to fake than trackback, and fully automatic provided both sites have the pingback feature enabled. As such, many users prefer pingbacks to trackbacks.

Side Note:

  • Pingbacks and trackbacks used to be popular because both were great ways of sharing and continuing the conversation. They were great when starting, and real people were linking back to your content, but once you became famous, things became hectic thanks to spammers.
  • The only difference between pingbacks and trackbacks is the communication technology each protocol uses

That being said, let us explore the pros and cons of pingbacks/trackbacks, so you can decide whether to enable or disable them.

Pros of Pingbacks/Trackbacks

It’s easy to see why many people loved both technologies. The potential benefits of pingbacks and trackbacks include:

  • Providing related content on your website, increasing the value of the content you offer to your users.
  • Building authority and clout. If an influential blogger or website links to your content via pingbacks or trackbacks, it can help you create authority around your content by displaying the pingbacks in your comment section.
  • Increasing traffic via backlinks. If a popular website publishes your pingbacks and trackbacks in their comment section, it can result in more traffic for your website.
  • Since pingbacks and trackbacks are essentially backlinks, they help you to improve SEO, provided you’re linking to authoritative (as opposed to spammy) sites.
  • Since a pingback or trackback shows the other person your willingness to share their content, they might end up sharing your content as well, which is great for traffic and brand outreach.

Cons of Pingbacks/Trackbacks

Pingbacks and trackbacks would have remained beautiful ways to connect, were it not for overzealous spammers armed with nasty splogs. Now, pingbacks and trackbacks are notorious for:

  • Spam, spam, and more spam. Spammers use trackbacks and pingbacks to send tons of spam. In fact, trackback spam is one of the five most common types of spam, according to CognitiveSEO. You can, however, combat trackback spam with a robust anti-spam plugin. Still, your spam folder will grow like crazy.
  • Poor SEO. If you leave pingbacks and trackbacks unmonitored, spammers can easily create trackbacks that make it look like you’re the one linking to them.
  • Tarningshing brand reputation. Nasty links on your site leading to porn, viagra or splog websites will destroy your brand reputation for sure.
  • Time-consuming. The major challenge with pingbacks and trackbacks is spam and a lot of it, for that matter. Moderating pingbacks and trackbacks takes away a massive chunk of your time, time that you can put to better use. Most websites don’t use pingbacks and trackbacks anymore, meaning you might end up wasting time sending trackbacks manually.
  • Self-pingbacks. If you link to other posts on your blog, WordPress will create pingbacks automatically, which can become annoying over time, especially if you’re creating a lot of internal links constantly. You can overcome self-pings using the No Self Pings WordPress plugin by Michael D. Adams.

How to Enable/Disable Pingbacks & Trackbacks

Pingbacks and trackbacks are enabled by default in WordPress. If you’re tired of spammy pingbacks, disabling pingbacks and trackbacks on your WordPress site is as easy as A, B, C. In your WordPress admin dashboard, navigate to Settings > Discussion as shown below.

wordpress pingback settings

Next, uncheck “Allow link notifications from other blogs (pingbacks and trackbacks) on new posts,” as we highlight in the image below.

Scroll to the bottom of the page and click the Save Changes button.

To enable pingbacks again, simply tick the checkbox and save your changes.

Note that you can enable pingbacks and trackbacks on a per-post basis. In your post editor, find the Discussion section. Next, check the “Allow trackbacks and pingbacks on this page” and update/publish your post:

Aside: If you don’t see the Discussion section (or even the Send Trackbacks section we mentioned earlier), click Screen Options at the top of the page and tick the respective checkboxes, as detailed below.

Disabling pingbacks and trackbacks, as we just learned, will only work for future posts. Previous posts will continue receiving pingbacks and trackbacks. So, how do we disable both for existing posts?

How to Disable Pingbacks & Trackbacks on Existing Posts

Navigate to Posts > All Posts, as seen below.

Next, click Screen Options at the top of the screen, enter 999 in the Number of items per page field and hit the Apply button:

The screen will reload to show up to 999 posts on the same page, which is excellent if you have hundreds of existing posts.

Next, tick the Title checkbox to select all posts:

After that, click the Bulk Actions drop-down, choose Edit and click the Apply button:

After that, select “Do not allow” under Pings and click the Update button, as seen below.

If you have more than 999 posts, you will need to go to the next page and repeat the process. Doing so disables pingbacks and trackbacks on selected posts. However, you will need to manually delete unwanted pingbacks and trackbacks on a per-post basis, or via the comment moderation screen.

That out of the way, let us look at some WordPress best practices that will finally help you decide whether to use pingbacks and trackbacks.

WordPress Pingback/Trackback Best Practices

If you end up using pingback and trackbacks on your site, it’s essential to do it right from the start. This will help you to reap the benefits of both technologies without spamming others at the same time.  If your main objective is to drive more traffic via pingbacks, the following tips will come in handy.

  • Notify the other person via social media or email. At times, your pingback or trackback might not reach the recipient for several reasons. When you link to another blog post, let them know via social media or email. On top of letting them know about the pingback, it can potentially expose your content to their social media followers.
  • Always link to a blog post, not the homepage. If you link to a homepage, no WordPress trackback will be sent. Even if you only want to mention their blog, link to a post instead of the homepage.
  • Do not publish self-trackbacks. It dilutes your valuable links on any given page.
  • Never use pingbacks and trackbacks to distribute spam knowingly.
  • Be extra vigilant with your pingbacks and trackbacks (or disable the features completely).

So, Should You Use Pingbacks/Trackbacks?

It’s entirely up to you and what you want to achieve. If done right, you can drive traffic and enjoy the other benefits. If left unmonitored, pingbacks and trackbacks can leave you with a lot of spam.

In my experience, 99% of pingbacks and trackbacks came from spammers, so I disabled the feature altogether. I choose to focus my time and energy on other effective methods. Some of the alternative methods I use include:

If spammers didn’t ruin the fun for everybody, I think pingbacks and trackbacks would outshine many methods of building backlinks. Nowadays, both technologies are not as popular as they used to be, and we have spammers to thank for that. Besides, many websites are employing newer methods of link building and traffic generation.

If you can hack it though, take a jab at pingbacks and see if it’s your cup of tea. Just get a useful anti-spam plugin from the start, or you will have a hard time dealing with endless strings of useless spam, especially when you become famous, and if you enjoyed this post, why not check out this article on How to Set Your WordPress or ClassicPress Homepage!

How to Set Your WordPress or ClassicPress Homepage

If you’ve ever bought a WordPress theme, installed it, then wondered why it doesn’t look exactly the way you saw it in the preview. you’ll know what it feels like to be a little bamboozled. What about a situation where you’d like to completely remove the blog portion of your website from the homepage? Website homepages mean a lot when it comes to conversions. This goes for email newsletter signups, sales and client leads. Yet, configuring your homepage on WordPress takes a little elbow grease to make perfect. But don’t worry, setting up and editing your WordPress homepage is just about one of the easiest tasks you’ll encounter. Then, after you know the routine you’ll have no problem completing the same task over and over with future websites.

When Would You Need to Set & Edit Your WordPress Homepage?

Seeing as how this is WordPress, a blogging platform, your blog shows up by default for a new WordPress installation. This means that all of your most recent posts show up on the first page that everyone lands on. For some websites, this is perfectly fine. For others, it doesn’t make sense from a marketing standpoint. Since WordPress has evolved into a well-rounded website builder, companies are looking for static homepages, where they can present information on products, services and the people working at the company.

For these companies, a blog is more of a secondary section that customers can navigate to if they want, or when they land on one of the blog posts from a search engine.

So, that begs the question, when would you want to set and edit your WordPress homepage?

Well, the main time is when you don’t want your blog out front. This happens when you have some of the following goals:

  • Increase email subscribers
  • Get more leads
  • Generate more sales
  • More of a focus on your services
  • When you don’t plan on having a blog at all (like a landing page)
  • In a situation where you’re not quite ready to start a blog

Editing the homepage is an entirely different story. Unless you’re entirely satisfied with the theme and default configuration of that theme, chances are you’ll want to edit some aspects of your website. For example, you might want to achieve some of the following:

  • One or multiple sidebars
  • Show widgets
  • Have a different navigational menu setup
  • New colors, logos or other design aspects

In short, most WordPress users make at least a few adjustments to their homepages. One of the most popular ones is adding a static page instead of the blog, while others are keen on keeping the blog but still adding all of their favorite widgets.

Now that we’ve understood the “why” behind setting and editing your WordPress homepage, let’s explore how to complete the process.

How to Set a Static Homepage in WordPress

As discussed you have the option to leave your blog on the homepage. But if you’re more inclined to make more of a landing page or add a slider or product gallery, changing your homepage to a static homepage is required. In fact, the vast majority of premium themes you purchase are going to ask you to immediately switch to a static homepage.

Start by opening up your WordPress dashboard and going to Settings > Reading. Select the Reading tab to open up several settings for your homepage.

Find the Your Homepage Displays section to see what exactly your website is currently showing on the homepage. Chances are it’s on the Latest Posts option by default. To choose a different page click on the Static Page radio button to select and set your new homepage.

Set Homepage: Your Homepage Displays

Upon selection, WordPress reveals two more choices for you to make. One of them asks you which page you’d like to show as your Front Page and the other is for your Posts Page. If you already have a bunch of pages made on your website (sometimes themes generate core pages for you, or perhaps you’ve already gone through and made your pages) just scroll down to find the pages you want.

Note:  You need to have already created and published your pages to be able to select them.

For example, a standard setup would be to choose the Homepage or Front Page as your Front Page. Keep in mind, this all depends on the names you give your pages, so it could be completely different for you.

For the Posts Page, you might select a page called Blog or Posts or whatever else you decided on.

Set Homepage: Your Homepage Displays - Static

Hit the Save Changes button, then navigate to the frontend of your website to see how that static page has become your homepage.

How to Make Your Blog the Homepage

Some folks only want to show their blog. It’s most common with, you guessed it, blogs! A general business website probably won’t have a blog as its front page, but a website dedicated solely to written content is more likely to want those articles on the homepage.

Therefore, go to Settings > Reading, then check to make sure that you have Your Latest Posts marked. You don’t have to adjust the selection for the Front Page or Posts Page. Those will be blanked out.

Set Homepage: Your Homepage Displays - Latest Posts

However, a few edits can be made depending on how you’d like your blog to show up. First is the Blog Pages Show at Most count – this is how many posts are displayed per page. You might want to have only five or ten of your most recent blog posts on the homepage. Some larger publications keep hundreds of posts on the front page, while many blogs limit then number. But no matter what you choose if you have more posts than the number you want displayed your blog will create additional pages for the posts (this is called pagination). So if you have 25 posts and choose to show 10 posts per page, your blog will have 3 pages created to display your posts (you can see WPExplorer has 75 pages

Next is the the Syndication Feeds Show the Most Recent count. This is used for RSS feeds and can be the same number as your blog pages, but it’s entirely up to you.

Finally, you also have a big decision to make regarding how those posts are going to appear. Your choices are Full Text and Summary. The summary gives users a chance to see more posts in a few scrolls of the mouse, and is what we use on WPExplorer. The full text, however, reveals every single word and image from every post. Therefore, a visitor must scroll all the way through the first post to get to the second. I’d recommend the Summary option, but lots of websites have the full text.

Reading Settings: Post Count

How to Create a WordPress Menu

Your WordPress theme probably isn’t automatically going to implement a clean menu. In fact, you might not see one at all.

Therefore you’ll need to go to Appearance > Menus.

Set Menus: Appearance - Menus

Either select a menu to edit by choosing it from the dropdown or click on the Create a New Menu link. While your theme may include a few default menus in the sample data, creating a new menu will allow you to make one from scratch.

Set Menus: Create or Select Menus

Regardless, once you create your menu or find the one you like, you can bring it up to alter the structure. Choose from pages, posts, categories, tags and custom post types to add to your menu. Or you can add a custom link as a menu item. Maybe you’d like to move your Blog tab a little closer to the front of the menu, allowing people to see it easier. You can click and drag menu items to reorder or nest them, and use the option in the left hand column to add new pages, posts, categories and custom links.

Set Menus: Add Pages

After your menu is organized be sure to select your Display location and save. Or you can go to the Manage Locations tab. All themes have different menu locations, but the most common are usually a Main Menu and a Footer Menu.

Set Menus: Display Locations

All you have to do is use the dropdown to select a menu you’ve created for each location. For instance, I want my Main menu to be placed in the Primary location.

Note: You can use the same menu in multiple locations.

How to Create a Menu in the Live Customizer

Another option is to set and edit your homepage from the WordPress live Customizer. To do this you’ll want to navigate to Appearance > Customize first.

Set Menus: Appearance - Customize

From here select the Menu option.

Set Menus: Customizer - Menu

Then either choose an exiting menu to edit or click to Create New Menu.

Set Menus: Select Menu to Edit

From here you can Use the +Add Items button to choose from the same pages, posts, categories, tags, custom post types and custom link options available from Appearance > Menus.

Set Menus: Menu Options

Just be sure to select your Menu Locations and Publish your menu when done.

Note: Any menus you create and save under Appearance > Menus will also be available from Appearance > Customizer, and vice versa.

Additional Homepage Editing Thoughts

From moving around widgets to customizing your homepage background, the majority of these homepage tools reside in the Appearance tab. In addition, the Customize tab (under Appearance) reveals a visual builder that’s great for uploading a logo, changing fonts and choosing your colors.

Want to Create a Custom Homepage?

If you want a custom (or customized) homepage but your theme doesn’t offer any added options to change colors, fonts, layouts etc you can always install a plugin.

  • If you simply want to tweak the elements that are already on your homepage (like change a font size, or edit paddings) then install a WordPress CSS Live Editor plugin.
  • If you want to build a completely custom homepage from scratch, then you should have a look at a WordPress page builder plugin that includes tons of easy drag & drop elements for you to design your own layout (or a new theme like Total that already includes a drag & drop builder)

After all of that, your homepage is ready to go!

Sometimes you feel like your website is broken or you’re doing something wrong, but you’ll often find that a quick adjustment with the front page display does the trick. Hopefully, you’ve found this helpful for setting and editing your WordPress homepage. Let me know in the comments if you have any questions. Fix the Most Common SEO Issues on Your Site Using 301 Redirects

Whenever you see a commercial or an article talking about creating websites, or you hear someone talking about starting one, the emphasis is always on “I was surprised at how quickly I have created my website, it only took me a couple of days!”. It makes you feel like creating an online presence, and earning a living online is a mere piece of cake that takes two days tops. Still, the ugly truth behind it is that there is no “set it up & leave it” aspect to having an online presence that puts the bread on the table. Maintaining your website is constant work, additionally, sites are rarely completed in a couple of days.

First, you need to work on your Search Engine Optimization (SEO) to actually get some visitors to your site. Then you have to work on their user experience (UX) to keep them there and help them make the decision to leave their money with you.

While setting up your website is no brain surgery nowadays with WordPress’ Gutenberg, for example, getting on the first page of Google’s Search Engine Results Page (SERP) so that your visitors will find you, almost is as difficult as open-heart surgery. Keeping your visitors on your site and having them spend their money with you is a result of a good user experience. The catch here is that there is no such thing as rules when it comes to UX, with everything being mere guidelines. UX takes a lot of testing and implementing feedback for the results to show.

Luckily, there is a technique that will help you make your customers happy, and that can help with both SEO and UX. It is called 301 redirections. What are 301 redirects, and in what instances would you use 301 redirects to help? Let’s check it out.

What are 301 redirects, and why should I use them?

301 redirects are a technique that you can implement to guide your traffic from one URL to another. They state that something that was on URL1 has moved permanently to URL2, directing traffic to URL2 without them realizing it.

It comes quite handy in numerous instances and plays a huge role in keeping your visitors happy and coming back, which is the key to making a living online. Here are some scenarios when you would find this technique useful.

Moving from one domain to another

Many people, when creating their new site, tend to overlook the importance of a proper domain name, especially when they are trying to get their online presence up and running in no time. This can prove to be a costly mistake later, as having a proper domain name can help immensely with your SEO score.

However, even if that’s the case with your site, not everything is lost. You can always move to another domain. This is where 301 redirects come handy, as they can help you ensure that your visitors will be moving to the new site as well, without going to the old one.

Taking care of 404’s on your site

Those pesky 404’s tend to creep into every site every now and then and are usually no reason to worry. However, if left unattended, they can do some serious damage to your website’s UX. Just think about how you feel when you are trying to find something online, you click on a link, and you get “Nothing found here” error.

In frustration, you probably click back and head on to the next result. Your visitors do the same. So, it is quite important to set up a 301 redirect, and have your visitors land somewhere else instead of on the 404 page in the first place, no matter how nicely you designed it.

An illustration showing lost sailor on an island

Making sure your content is updated at all times

On the same note, if you are searching online for “the best SEO practices,” and you click on the first result only to find that that result goes way back to 2016, you might feel rather disappointed. This is another situation where 301 redirects can help with your user experience.

What you should do is create a new article “the best SEO practices in 2020”, and set up a redirect for the older article to take the visitors to the new one. Not only are you providing your visitors with relevant and useful information, but you are also helping the new article rank higher in SERP, meaning more visitors!

Google will take notice that your visitors are actually reading the article instead of hitting back – which is what Search Engine Optimization is all about.

The Cocktail Technique

Speaking of helping the article rank higher using redirects, “The Cocktail Technique,” coined by ahref, which is a technique of merging two pieces of content into one. This helps immensely with page or post’s authority, as now a single piece of content has the authority of the two combined, meaning that it gets more credit from Google, too. Ultimately, the new piece will have a better result in SERP!

Stting up 301 Redirects on a WordPress site

You might have figured out the importance of setting up 301 redirects before but kept postponing it or trying to avoid it because messing up with .htaccess file is really not your thing.

That’s okay – not everyone is comfortable with writing code. It is probably why you are running your site on the WordPress platform, too.

However, every WordPress-er knows that when it comes to WordPress solutions, all you should do is find a proper plugin to help you out. With over fifty-thousand plugins in the official WordPress repository, it is quite impossible not to find the one to help you out with any kind of problem you might have.

The same goes for setting up 301 redirects on your site. The good news is that you don’t have to dig deep. There is a plugin called “301 redirects” which can help you with setting them up in no time.

Set redirects up with 301 Redirects plugin

301 Redirects plugin is by far the simplest way to set up your 301 redirects and win the battle with any of the instances mentioned above. Not only will this plugin help you set up your redirects in no time, but it is also very safe to use.

It doesn’t come with any unnecessary code that would slow down your site, or collide with other plugins.

Let’s check the few, carefully selected features this plugin comes with.

Effortlessly set up 301 redirects

With this plugin, setting up redirects is as simple as a copy and paste. No complicated editing, trying to figure out code, or anything of the kind. All you should be aware of is the URL of the page you want to redirect from, and the URL of the page you want to redirect to.

Once you figure that out, the location of your 404 page, for example, all you have to do is to copy and paste the URL in the “redirect from” provided field and copy and paste the new URL into “redirect to” field. The plugin will do the rest.

wp 301 redirect wordpress panel

Managing the redirects on your site can be done in another way – using the provided dropdown menu, which makes the process even simpler. Instead of pasting the “redirect to,” you can effortlessly choose the destination from the dropdown menu, which includes Custom, Post, Page, Media, and also Term Archive for you to select from.

redirect rules in wp redirect

Simple preview of all existing redirects and number of times they were used

As soon as you create a redirect, it will be neatly listed under the redirect rules feature. From there, you can effortlessly edit them, remove them, or, overall, modify them to fit your needs. Apart from being able to preview them, you will also be able to see how many times a specific redirect was used – thanks to the hits tab. This way, you can monitor the effectiveness of the redirects you set up.

Import or Export redirects in Bulk

You might have prepared an Excel file containing all the redirects you need to set up, and are now frustrated about the amount of copy-paste you need to do. Everybody hates repetitive, manual work, which is why the Import/Export feature is a true nerve-saver.

import option and others in wp 301 redirect

Thanks to this feature, you can simply export your table as a CSV file, and then upload your CSV file into the plugin. The plugin will take it from there, turn those values into redirects, while you sit back and relax.

On the same note, you can take advantage of the Export feature, and export all the existing redirects into a CSV file. It’s perfect if you are looking to share them, or store them outside WordPress.

All in all, gaining new visitors and keeping them happy with fresh and relevant content is what SEO and UX are all about. It is mandatory that you provide them with what the information they were searching for instead of a 404 page or outdated piece of content, which is why redirects are an important aspect of every online presence.

With 301 Redirects plugin, setting them up is a piece of cake, even if you have never done it before. Just a couple of ctrl+v’s, and you are good to go. Overall, if you need to handle those UX and SEO mistakes, this is the plugin to keep in your arsenal! Efficiently Manage LearnDash In Wordpress Or ClassicPress

Managing courses, students along with handling administration responsibilities can be tedious. And although this is what you have to do on a day-to-day basis, you wonder if there are other efficient ways to handle all of this? Is it possible to delegate course management responsibilities to co-authors? How about a faster way to create new courses in Wordpress or ClassicPress? Here I’ve rounded up a few tips to help manage your LearnDash website effectively.

70. WooCommerce Bulk Edit Plugin

WooCommerce Bulk Edit

If you stock a lot of products in your eCommerce store, managing them all can be tough. Imagine having to go through over 1,000 products manually to make small adjustments to the prices. There’s got to be a better way, surely?

Well there is! WooCommerce Advanced Bulk Edit makes managing huge volumes of products a breeze. The plugin adds a master spreadsheet to your website’s backend. Any changes made to items in this spreadsheet will be reflected on the live version of your website.

The plugin supports 44 fields, all of which can be edited. Let’s say a manufacturer makes a small update to one of the models you stock. In just seconds, you could find the product, edit the name, description, and price, without ever clicking through to the product page. This can save substantial amounts of time. The plugin supports a powerful filter system, allowing you to find the products meeting your specified criteria with ease.

If you face a price hike across the board, it could take you most of the day to update all prices manually, even when using the handy spreadsheet. With WooCommerce Advanced Bulk Edit you can set bulk prices across your entire product range – this could be a fixed value price change or a percentage-based price change. You can even configure your sales prices this way.

71. WISDM Customer Specific Pricing

Also, you may have groups of VIP or platinum customers for whom you would want to set custom prices. Customer loyalty only translates to more sales after all.

How do you get all of this done without having to turn your WooCommerce code inside out? Customer Specific Pricing Extension for WooCommerce.

Customer Specific Pricing is a WooCommerce extension that enables the store admin to set different prices for individual customers, roles (subscriber, customer etc) and groups. It will help you show the customer, role or group only the custom prices that were set for them, and not the WooCommerce sale or regular prices.

73. WISDM Scheduler

WooCommerce Scheduler WordPress Plugin

Boost Sales on Your WooStore with WooCommerce Scheduler! Introducing unique products for a limited amount of time is one of the surest ways of picking up sales on your WooCommerce Store. However, despite being the most popular e-commerce platform for websites across the world, WooCommerce does not have a built-in setting for this functionality.

Overcoming this shortcoming is the WooCommerce Scheduler plugin, which allows you to add and sell products on your online store for a limited duration. The plugin can be used to add sale-time limits to existing, as well as new products, by simply choosing the dates while editing the product.

Once the dates and timings are set, a countdown timer is displayed near the product which generates a perceived sense of scarcity in the minds of your customers. This stimulates an urgency to buy, and hence possess, the product at the earliest, which leads to a purchase 7 times out of 10!

Also, Creating limited edition products is a great way of showcasing novelty products that are different from the usual fare on your WooCommerce Store. Not only does this play on the consumer’s psyche of possessing a unique product that is available for a short duration, it also nudges buyers on the fence towards making a purchase, as they are convinced that these products will no longer be available after a given amount of time.

In the customer’s mind scarcity equals attractiveness, which is a tried and tested method of marketing. All the WooCommerce Scheduler plugin does is ensure that getting there to set up these products is quick, painless, and easy.

In addition to these great features, WooCommerce admins can choose to run a “Credits Only” store. Simply select the option in the plugin settings. Running a “Credits Only” store will hide all currency prices and only let customers check out with their credit balance. A currency option will then reappear when customers replenish their Credits. WooCommerce admins can market and sell their Credit Bundles by using the “buy_credits” shortcode on any page or post.

WooCredits also offers Visual Composer template add-ons available for purchase which are pre-designed blocks to help market your Credit Bundles. Other shortcodes available include “user_credits” which displays the credit balance of users who are logged in. 5 Best Wordpress or ClassicPress Security Check Tools

If you are looking for the best website security check tool and want to make sure that your website is safe and doesn’t suffer from any potential vulnerabilities that might cause issues in the future then this post is for you. Everyone knows that website security is important – but how do you tell whether your website is secure or not? Here I take a look at some of the tools that can help self builders with their Wordpress or ClassicPress site security.

Additionally, almost all of the tools on this list are free. And the one tool that is paid offers a 14-day free trial, with no credit card required. Unlike a lot of other similar posts, this one isn’t really about picking the single best website security check tool. Instead, all of these tools bring something unique to the table and there’s really no reason not to benefit from all of them.

Best Website Security Check Tools

For each tool, I’ll try to highlight what makes it unique and what types of insights it can help you discover. For example, one tool is focused on finding vulnerabilities in WordPress and its extensions, while others are focused on general website security best practices.

Understanding the limitations of these website security check tools:

All of these tools are useful for assessing the security and vulnerability of your website, but it’s important to understand that they’re limited in their approach.

All of these tools essentially scan your site as an “outside observer.” This lets them find vulnerabilities that could let other malicious actors into your website.

However, this does not give them the ability to, say, find a piece of malware sitting hidden in one of the folders on your server.

To find malware in this way, you’d need a dedicated malware scanner tool that’s able to scan every single file on your server.

Basically, it’s important to understand that just because these tools don’t find any issues, that doesn’t 100% guarantee that there’s nothing wrong with your site. This is not a criticism of the tools on this list – it’s just important to understand what they’re actually checking for.

Five best website security check tools in 2020

Let’s discuss them in detail:

1. Sucuri SiteCheck

Sucuri SiteCheck is one of the most popular free website security check tools.

It’s super simple – all you do is plug in your URL. Then, Sucuri SiteCheck will check for:

  • Known malware that’s presenting on the front-end of your site.

⚠️ Remember, it cannot catch all malware because it’s not actually scanning the files on your server.

  • Viruses.
  • Blacklisting status.
  • Website errors.
  • Out-of-date software.
  • Malicious code.

It will then spit back an easy-to-interpret results page that highlights the tests you’ve passed, as well as any areas where you could improve your security.

If you’re using WordPress, you can also access much of this information from the free Sucuri Security WordPress plugin.

The plugin also adds some WordPress-specific scans, like file integrity monitoring for the WordPress core.

Both Sucuri SiteCheck and the Sucuri Security WordPress plugin are 100% free, though Sucuri does offer a paid firewall/security service if you want more proactive protection.

Pros ?

  • The results page is easy to interpret.
  • It’s 100% free.
  • If you’re using WordPress, there’s a free plugin.

Cons ?

  • It’s not as detailed as some of the other tools on this list.

Sucuri SiteCheck

2. Go Mozilla Observatory

Observatory is a free website security check project from Mozilla, the same company behind the popular Firefox browser. It integrates both its own tests, as well as some built-in tests from third-party platforms like SSL Labs.

SSL Labs could probably get its own spot on this list. But, because it’s already included in Observatory, I’m leaving it off.

Overall, this is probably the most detailed free website security check tool on this list.

It breaks its test results up into four sections:

  • HTTP Observatory
  • TLS Observatory
  • SSH Observatory
  • Third-party Tests

By itself, the results page can be a little difficult to interpret. But one nice thing about Observatory is that, for most tests, it links you to a page that explains what each test means in much greater detail.

You might need to invest some time to understand what it’s telling you, but it does provide you with the resources that you need to learn what’s happening, and it goes into a lot of detail.

Observatory is 100% free!

Pros ?

  • Observatory is quite detailed in the tests that it runs.
  • It also integrates test data from third-party tools, like SSL Labs, that could deserve their own spot on this list.
  • It’s 100% free.
  • There are lots of documentation resources built around the tool that explain what most of the tests mean.

Cons ?

  • Interpreting the results can be a little difficult if you’re a casual user. Mozilla explains everything – you’ll just need to invest some time in reading the aforementioned documentation.

Mozilla Observatory

3. Detectify

Detectify is a more heavy-duty website security check tool…but it’s also not free. So – trade-offs!

In total, Detectify scans your site against 1,500+ vulnerabilities, including CORS, OWASP Top 10, and Amazon S3 Bucket misconfiguration.

To build its scanner, Detectify uses a unique crowdsourcing approach. Over 150 “handpicked ethical hackers” contribute to the scanner to build its automated tests.

Overall, it’s definitely the most detailed scan of any tool on this list.

However, the downside, again, is that it’s not free. You can test it out with a 14-day free trial (no credit card required). However, once that trial runs out, the paid plans start at $50 per month (annually) or $60 per month (month-to-month).

Still, if you just want to run a one-time security check, you can take advantage of the free trial to put your site through the wringer.

To get started, you’ll need to verify your website first, which is an extra step vs the other tools. However, you have some simple options to accomplish this, including Google Analytics, uploading a file, or adding a meta tag.

Pros ?

  • Detailed security scan that checks for more than 1,500 vulnerabilities.
  • Has a unique crowdsourcing approach to develop the security scanner.
  • Runs security scans on all your pages, whereas most tools just check the specific URL that you enter.
  • 14-day free trial with no credit card required.

Cons ?

  • There’s no permanent free plan.
  • Paid plans are pricey, so you need to be willing to invest in website security.

4. SSLTrust

Despite the name, the SSLTrust website security check tool tests a lot more than just your SSL certificate (though it does that, too).

It doesn’t run its own checks per se. Instead, it tests your site against a huge collection of third-party tools/blacklists including:

  • OpenPhish
  • Google Safe Browsing
  • Sucuri SiteCheck
  • Opera blacklist
  • Avira
  • Comodo
  • Etc.

In total, it checks your site against 66 different services. However, with the exception of the SSL test, everything is just pass/fail.

So, this one can tell you if your site has been flagged for an issue, but it’s not going to provide a ton of details by itself.

It’s helpful when combined with the other tools, but you shouldn’t rely on it by itself as it’s not running proactive protection scans – instead, it’s just telling you if you already have a security issue.

Pros ?

  • Tests your site against 66+ other services.
  • Super easy to interpret the results – almost everything is just pass/fail.
  • It also includes a more detailed SSL security test.
  • It’s 100% free.

Cons ?

  • With the exception of the SSL tests, none of the tests are proactive – they’re all backward-looking and only focused on detecting existing issues.
  • The pass/fail nature of most of the tests means that you don’t get a ton of details.

5. WPScan

WPScan is a WordPress vulnerability checker sponsored by Automattic, the same company behind and WooCommerce.

Unlike the other website security check tools, WPScan is specifically focused on WordPress vulnerabilities, which makes it a great option if you’re using WordPress (but not very helpful if you aren’t!).

Because it’s just focused on WordPress, you also shouldn’t rely on it by itself. Instead, I think it’s a great option to pair with the other website security checker options on this list. That way, you can use WPScan to catch WordPress-specific vulnerabilities and the other tools to catch general website vulnerabilities.

The code itself is available on GitHub, so you’re free to install it on your own server if you feel comfortable. But if you don’t know how to do that, or if you just don’t feel like messing with the setup process, there are also cloud services that can run the scan for you, as well as a dedicated WordPress plugin.

You can find the free WPScan plugin at

And two good options for the cloud service are:

  • – this is the “official” cloud service that offers one free scan per month or daily automated scans for a price.
  • WPSec – this is a third-party service from Triop AB that uses the WPScan code with some additional algorithms on top. You can manually run scans whenever you want.

WPScan WordPress vulnerability checker

Pros ?

  • Checks for vulnerabilities in WordPress core, plugins, and themes.
  • Multiple ways to use it – you can install it on your own server, use a cloud scan, or install the free plugin.
  • It’s free (though there is a paid service if you want more frequent automated scans).

Cons ?

  • Only checks for WordPress vulnerabilities – it’s not a complete website security check.

Which is the best website security check tool?

Unlike other roundups, there’s really no need to choose a single tool. Each of these tools has something to offer and most are free, so there’s no downside to using all of them.

Two tools that I would single out are:

WPScan is a great option if you’re running a WordPress site because it takes a WordPress-specific approach to security scans that none of the other tools do. If you combine it with these WordPress security tips, you’ll be in great shape.

Detectify is pricey, but it is a great option if you want more comprehensive security scanning and vulnerability detection (and are willing to invest in it).

All of the others are free and basically just require plugging in your site’s URL, so there’s no reason to skip any of them. For example, the SSLTrust tool will quickly tell you if your site has known malware or blacklisting issues, while Mozilla Observatory will actually dig into some proactive checks that can prevent you from having issues in the first place.

Sucuri SiteCheck sits somewhere in between – offering a basic blacklist check plus some proactive tips.

They all have value – so you can use them together to ensure that you get the best security for your site.If you enujoyed this post, why not check out this article on Top Wordpress Plugins For Non Techies!

Scala Hosting For Wordpress Or ClassicPress

Choosing a hosting provider for your WordPress site is a serious task. You want to make sure that your online content is in good hands, and that navigating and managing your account is straightforward. Scala Hosting offers Managed Virtual Private Server (VPS) hosting to protect your site’s performance and make maintaining it easier. Plus, with in-house technologies for account management and security, you can keep your costs down. In this post I’ll introduce you to Scala Hosting and show you five reasons to choose it for your WordPress site.

Scala Hosting, like other hosting providers, is a company that stores customers’ websites on their servers. This arrangement is what makes it possible for visitors to access your WordPress site.

There are many different types of web hosting. While it offers a wide variety of plans, Scala Hosting is best known for its Managed VPS packages:

This offer provides the best possible performance and security while keeping costs down. Plus, every plan from Scala Hosting includes:

  • 24/7 technical support
  • Free Secure Socket Layer (SSL) certificates
  • Free migration services from your old hosting provider
  • A 30-day money-back guarantee

In short, there’s a lot to gain and next to nothing to lose by giving Scala Hosting a try.

5 Reasons to Choose Scala Hosting for Your WordPress Site

There are a lot of WordPress hosting providers out there. It can be hard to determine which one is best for your site. Below, I’ve highlighted five advantages of choosing Scala Hosting.

1. VPS Hosting Can Improve Your Site’s Performance

As we mentioned above, Scala Hosting is strongly focused on providing Managed VPS packages. Since your site will have dedicated resources on your server, you don’t have to worry about other users eating up the available disk space and slowing down your loading times.

Performance influences User Experience (UX) and Search Engine Optimization (SEO). Both these factors are key to your site’s success, so choosing a plan that won’t hurt your loading times is crucial.

Scala Hosting plans are also highly scalable since you can add CPU cores, RAM, and disk space to your account at any time. This flexibility enables you to make sure your site loads quickly and can support all your users as it grows.

2. They’ll Help Manage and Maintain Your WordPress Site

Like many hosting providers, Scala Hosting offers additional support for users of the web’s most popular Content Management System (CMS). However, it’s taken Managed WordPress hosting to the next level with its built-in SWordPress Manager:

Scala Hosting's SWordPress Manager.

This tool is available in your hosting account control panel (more on that soon). It includes several handy features such as:

  • One-click WordPress installation
  • Automatic update configuration
  • Admin password reset capability
  • ‘Security lock’ functionality

To help protect your WordPress site, you can use Scala Hosting’s security lock to disable Core file modifications. Cloning, staging, and backup restoration features are in the works as well.

3. Their Plans Include Advanced Security Features

Web host security is a serious matter. If your server is hacked, you could lose your site’s content as well as user data. An attack can do real damage to your brand image as well.

In addition to its WordPress security lock function, Scala Hosting offers a long list of advanced protections, including:

  • A dedicated firewall for your site
  • Regular malware scans and removal
  • Free SSL certificates to encrypt data
  • Automated WordPress updates
  • Storage for up to seven daily backups

Plus, developers at Scala Hosting have created its SShield Security Guard technology, which uses Artificial Intelligence (AI) to identify and stop malicious behaviour:

Scala Hosting's SShield Security Guard.

SShield Security Guard catches and blocks 99.998 percent of cyberattacks. You’ll be immediately notified you if your site is at risk so you can improve your security measures and protect your site.

4. You Can Manage Your Account With an Intuitive Control Panel

Your hosting account control panel is vital to managing your billing and personal information as well as your site’s files, database, domain, and more. Being able to easily navigate this dashboard is key.

Scala Hosting has its own unique dashboard interface, known as sPanel:

The sPanel logo.

Designed as an all-in-one hosting and site management hub, sPanel includes:

  • The SWordPress Manager
  • Access to security features including SShield Security Guard
  • A built-in backup system
  • Links to your email, MySQL databases, SSL certificates, and domains

Plus, sPanel is 100 percent compatible with the popular cPanel. You can easily migrate your site from this platform to Scala Hosting and keep all your emails, passwords, databases, domains, and cron jobs intact.

5. In-House Technology Makes for More Affordable Plans

As you may have noticed, Scala Hosting builds a lot of the technology used to secure and manage sites in-house. Less reliance on third-party platforms means fewer chances something will go wrong and affect your website.

However, it also benefits your bank account. Since Scala Hosting doesn’t have to pay other companies to secure or maintain customers’ sites, you get to save on your Managed WordPress VPS plan. Consider this comparison:

A comparison table of the costs associated with Scala Hosting's sPanel versus cPanel.

Pricing starts at just $12 per month for one CPU core, two GB RAM, and 20 GB of SSD space. If you’re launching a small business site or blog, this is an affordable, high-quality alternative to other providers’ shared hosting plans.

Your hosting provider impacts your site’s performance, security, and overall success. Finding the right one is arguably the most important part of launching your website.

In this review, we took a look at five reasons to choose a Managed WordPress VPS plan from Scala Hosting:

  1. VPS hosting can improve your site’s performance.
  2. They’ll help manage and maintain your WordPress site.
  3. Their plans include advanced security features.
  4. You can manage your account with an intuitive control panel.
  5. In-house technology makes for more affordable plans.

Advantages of using Facebook Pixel

Facebook Pixel is an analytics tool that will help you optimize your marketing activities through Facebook. Here is a look at some of the obvious advantages when you integrate it with your website.

One of the major advantages of integrating Facebook Pixel on your website is that it help you in retargeting. You will be able to present your products to customers who have already shown interest in your products. Retargeting has higher chances of conversion, as you already know the customers have some interest in the product.

Conversion optimization

Facebook Pixel will provide you better scope to optimize conversions on your store. You can optimize conversion events that are more closely related to business growth. This will help you be more in control of your analytics data as you can measure the efficacy of campaigns more clearly.

Helps you target customers based on value

By analyzing purchase history of a set of customers, you can always identify the ones who are more valuable to your business. The ones who have already spent considerable amount of money are more likely to purchase again from you. Facebook Pixel will help you target such customers.

Track customer behavior

Facebook Pixel helps you track customers who has interacted with your ads. This will help you understand the user behavior that leads to a conversion. You will be able to get a lot of insights about how customers are perceiving your website.

Help you build custom audience

Facebook Pixels will help you broaden your audience base. Based on the specific details of users who are already interacting with your site, it will help you build a custom audience. The data of existing users such as demographics, interests, etc., will be considered for this.

Exclude specific users from retargeting

Sometimes retargeting users who have already purchased the advertised product from you can backfire. It will create a bad user experience and a negative perception about your site. Thankfully, you can exclude such audience from your retarget campaign.

Use more reporting and advertising tools

Along with tracking important aspects of your business growth, Facebook Pixel will also encourage you to use other tools for Facebook advertising. Once you get comfortable in the environment, you will be using more tools and options.

WPvivid Backup Plugin For Wordpress or ClassicPress

Backing up your Wordpress or ClassicPress site is paramount to site owners and self builders, and an essential part of the maintenance routine. Having a backup solution on your site is one of the most basic ways to ensure WordPress security. The platform also offers many different solutions for it. A relatively new contender in this area is Migrate & Backup WordPress by WPvivid, which calls itself  “the only free all-in-one backup, restore and migration WordPress plugin”. To see what it can do for users and if it brings anything new to the table, in this review I will take an in-depth look at it. Below, I will examine its standout features and go through all of its key functionality so you can make a decision whether it’s the right thing for your needs.

Stats, Numbers, and Features

Migrate & Backup WordPress is a free plugin available in the WordPress directory. At the time of this writing, it has over 20,000 installs and a solid 4.9/5-star rating. Here’s what it promises it can do for you:

  • Migrate your site to a new domain with a single click, e.g. from development to live production or vice versa
  • Create automatic (remote) backups of your WordPress site including one-click restore or restore via upload

There is also a pro version with additional features that we will talk about later. To really get an impression, let’s take it for a spin.

How to Use the WPvivid Backup Plugin

Here are the basics of using the plugin on your WordPress site.

1. Install WPvivid Backup

As always, the first thing you want to do is start with the installation. For that, the quickest way is to go to Plugins > Add New and then searching for it by name (WPvivid is enough).

Once you have located it in the list, hit the Install Now button and wait until the download has finished. Then, don’t forget to click on Activate.

2. Create a Manual Backup

After the installation, you automatically land on the plugin’s main page.

wpvivid backup plugin main screen

Here, you have access to its most basic functionality – creating manual backups.

For that, simply choose what to back up (database and files, only files, only database) and whether to save them locally or remotely (more on that soon). You can also check a box to determine that a backup should only be deleted manually and not automatically.

When you are happy with your choices, hit the big Backup Now button and the plugin will go to work. You can watch the progress via a status bar at the top.

backup progress bar

When you are done, the finished backup will appear at the bottom of the page.

list of available plugins

This is where all of them show up. Here, you can also check the log, download the backup, start a restore (you will soon learn how), or delete an existing backup. So far, so good.

3. Create a Backup Schedule

Of course, with backups, it’s better to have a set-it-and-forget-it solution. That’s where scheduling comes into play. You find the options for that under the Schedule tab.

wpvivid backup plugin create backup schedule

Setting one up is really easy. Just set a tick mark at the top where it says Enable backup schedule to get started.

Next, pick an interval (every 12 hours, daily, weekly, every fortnight, or every month). After that, choose what you want the WPvivid backup plugin to save in terms of files and database and, finally, whether to store it remotely or locally. Save the changes at the bottom when you are done.

From now on, your site will automatically be backed up according to your settings. You can also see this on the dashboard where it shows your next backup along with other information.

backup schedule on main page

4. Set up a Remote Storage

If you store your backups in the same place as your site (i.e. on your server), in a worst-case scenario, they might get lost together with your site and you are left with nothing.

For that reason, under Remote Storage, WPvivid backup allows you to save your stuff in many different places off-site:

  • Google Drive
  • Dropbox
  • Microsoft OneDrive
  • Amazon S3
  • DigitalOcean Spaces

Pick your favorite, enter an alias (so your recognize which storage it is on your own site), configure settings, choose whether to use it as the default remote storage and then hit the blue button to authenticate or test your settings.

set up remote storage

Depending on your choice, you might have to authenticate with the storage provider in the next step and also give the plugin permission/access.

However, once you are done, you can also choose remote storage for your manual and automated backups. The new option will also show up in your list of available storage spaces.

remote storage option

In my test, this worked without a hitch.

5. How to Do a Restore

Restoring from storage is pretty much as easy as backing up. Just hit the Restore button on your list of available backups. It will show you this page:

restore from backup

Click on Restore, confirm when asked if you want to continue. You will see the progress in the field below and get a message when it’s done

If the space is remote, the plugin will ask you to download the backup to your server first. In addition, on the main page, you can also upload manual backups to your site via Upload.

manually upload backups

When have done either, click the Scan uploaded backup or received backup button to see it in the list. You can restore them from here as described.

6. Auto-Migration

Another option the WPvivid backup plugin offers is migrating your site from one server to another. This can be two live servers, live to staging, local to live, and many other combinations. You can do this automatically or manually.

For automatic, you first need to go create a site key for authentication. For that, the same plugin needs to be installed on the site you want to migrate to. There, go to the Key tab.

Choose how long you want your key to be valid for and then hit Generate. It will give you something like this:

generate key

Copy it, then log into the site you want to migrate and go to Auto-Migration.

auto migration key activation

Here, paste the key from earlier and click Save at the bottom. The plugin will check if everything is alright and then tell you whether it’s fine to move from one place to the other.

auto migration

Choose what you want to transfer and hit Clone then Transfer at the bottom afterward. Note that the plugin makers recommend to disable redirect, firewall, security, and caching plugins for the time of the transfer. However, that’s it.

Alternatively, you can also download a backup and then restore it manually in the target site as described above.

7. Plugin Settings

The plugin offers a number of settings that you can find in the Settings tab (how fitting!).

wpvivid backup plugin settings

They are divided into general and advanced settings. Here are the options under general:

  • Determine the number of backups to keep (up to seven in the free version)
  • Display options for access to the WPvivid backup plugin in the WordPress back end
  • File merging options to save space
  • Storage and naming options for backups
  • Ability to remove older backup instances
  • Setup options for email reporting when backing up
  • Sizes of temporary files and logs and the ability to delete them
  • Export and import of settings for use on other websites

You also get a bunch of links to helpful resources. Here’s what to find in the advanced settings:

  • Switch on optimization mode for shared hosting in case there are problems
  • Controls for file compression, file exclusion, script execution limit, memory limits, chunk size, and times to try until time out

8. Other Options

Here are the remaining tabs in the main dashboard of WPvivid backup:

  • Debug — If you are having problems, you can send debug information to WPvivid or download them to send manually
  • Logs — Saves everything going on with the plugin so you can see what happened during your backups
  • MainWP — If you are using MainWP to manage your WordPress site, WPvivid backup has their own plugin solution for it that you can find here

9. Export & Import

Besides its main functionality, the plugin also lets you transfer posts and pages between WordPress installations (including images) under WPvivid Backup > Export & Import.

export content

Simply pick which one you want to transfer. Then, in the next step, choose your filters (categories, authors, date).

filter content

This will give you a list, from which can pick single posts and pages.

choose content to export

Add a comment if needed, otherwise hit Export and Download.

This gives you a zip file. You can then upload it in another installation under Import or upload it to the import directory via FTP and scan from there.

import content

Choose which author to assign the pages to during the process and that’s it.

WPvivid Backup & Restore – Pro Version

As mentioned, WPvivid backup also comes with a pro version, which you can find on their website.

It gives you additional options and is currently in beta so you can use it for free. If you do, you can get 40% off of a lifetime license for the finished product. Here’s what it will include:

  • Custom migrations — Choose what to take with you in terms of core files, database tables, themes, plugins, and more.
  • Advanced remote options — Migration and restore becomes possible via remote storage and you can create custom folders in your remote storage.
  • More advanced scheduling options — Time zones, custom start times, custom backup content, and storage locations.
  • Staging and Multisite support — The ability to create staging environments and publish them to live in one click and use the plugin with WordPress Multisite although I do not recommend using Multisite if it is avoidable.
  • Better reporting — Email reports sent to multiple addressees
  • More backups — Store more than seven backups at a time

Pricing will start at $49/year for annual plans and $99 for lifetime licenses. It gets more expensive depending on features and the number of websites you want to use the plugin on.

wpvivid backup plugin pricing

Evaluation of WPvivid

Overall, WPvivid backup is a solid plugin that is intuitive to work with. I didn’t run into any major problems while testing except that I couldn’t get it to work in my local XAMPP installation. I also think some of the user interface could use some polishing.

Aside from that, my only criticism is that WPvivid is one of the plugin solutions where you need to have an existing website to migrate to with the plugin installed. For site migrations, I like a solution better that allows you to clone a website and deploy it on an empty server or as in most of our migrations, just done by hand via FTP and DB export..

Having a backup solution is one of the most basic ways to keep your site safe. No WordPress website should go without. With WPvivd Backup & Restore, users now have even more choices than before.

Above, we have gone over the plugin’s main features and how it works. It comes with lots of functionality, is well made, and easy to use. While there are few things to criticize, if you are looking for a new backup solution for WordPress, I can wholeheartedly recommend it.

Have you tried out the WPvivid backup plugin? What was your first impression? Please share in the comments below. If you enjoyed this post, why not check out this article on how to Enable GZIP Compression on WordPress or ClassicPress!
